I have reviewed news from fall camps across the country and now look at how that news impacts player’s college fantasy football value. I then assign a generic positive/negative point score to the impact of the news affecting a player’s value. A history of weekly value updates will be tracked on the Purple Reign Big Boards at the bottom of the article to track how players are trending through fall camp.
STOCK RISING
RB Marquez Cooper (SDSU) +3.00: Cooper was being challenged by Kenan Christon for carries. Christon injured his ankle and will now miss six to eight weeks. Add in that freshman Danny O’Neil has won the starting QB job and you can see the Aztecs lean on Cooper to help take pressure off of O’Neil.
QB Gio Lopez (SoAl) +1.25: Things looked a little rocky at times for Lopez this fall camp while Bishop Davenport was playing some very good football to try and contend for the starting job. In the end Lopez was named the starter and we’ll have to see if the noise we heard about Lopez’s issues was just noise.
QB Chandler Morris (NorTx) +1.00: Morris did not enroll in classes at North Texas until the fall semester and was unable to begin challenging for the starting QB job until fall camp. The TCU transfer has earned that starting job and looks poised for a big fantasy season.
QB Miller Moss (USC) +1.00: Moss was the presumptive favorite to win the QB battle until the spring game where he played poorly. This led to speculation that Moss might not win the job in the fall. That is no longer a concern as he was named the starting QB.
QB LaNorris Sellers (SCar) +1.00: Sellers was expected to win the starting QB job and he has now been officially named the starter. His dual-threat ability makes him an attractive fantasy option.
QB Devon Dampier (NM) +1.00: It is not a surprise that Dampier won the battle for the starting QB job. His dual-threat ability makes him the perfect guy for this offense.
QB Dequan Finn (Bayl) +1.00: Finn made the jump from the Group of 5 to the Power 4 and managed to win the starting job at Baylor. It will be interesting to see how his dual-threat abilities will do against Big XII defenses.
QB Maalik Murphy (Duke) +1.00: Murphy’s decision to transfer out of Texas for greener pastures proved to be a wise decision as he was named the starting QB for Duke. He has a very fantasy friendly match-up with FCS Phoenix for the season opener.
QB Brendan Sorsby (Cin) +1.00: The Indiana transfer has held off the challenge from Brady Litchenberg to win the starting QB job.
QB JC French (GaSo) +1.00: When French came onto campus he was being groomed to take over the starting QB job. This season he got the opportunity and won the starting job over Indiana transfer Dexter Williams.
QB Anthony Colandrea (UVA) +1.00: Colandrea was able to hold off Tony Muskett to win the starting QB job. We will need to see if Colandrea can cut down on his interception rate this season.
QB Cam Fancher (FlAtl) +1.00: Fancher earned the starting QB job over Tyriq Starks. For him to become a viable fantasy asset he will need to cut down on his INT rate from last season.
QB Sam Leavitt (AzSt) +1.00: Leavitt was named the starting QB over Trenton Bourguet and Jeff Sims. Its difficult to gauge how well Leavitt will do this season so its best to not draft him and see how he does early in the year.
QB Ben Finley (Akr) +1.00: Finley was named the starting QB for the Zips. We’ll have to wait until Week 2 to see if he can make the Joe Morehead offense click this season.
QB Dylan Raiola (Neb) +0.75: There were high hopes in Lincoln that the talented freshman Raiola would earn the starting QB job and those hopes have been answered. Raiola will enter the season opener as the team’s starting QB.
QB Preston Stone (SMU) +0.50: Stone was named the starting QB showing that he has made a full recovery from his broken leg injury of last season.
RB Cameron Seldon (Tenn) +0.50: Seldon has been recovering from a shoulder injury and has not been fully participating in practices. Head coach Josh Heupel believes that Seldon is now probable for the season opener.
RB Montrell Johnson (Fla) +0.50: Johnson has been dealing with a slow recovery from a knee surgery he underwent during the summer. Head coach Bill Napier has high hopes Johnson will play in the season opener. Even if he plays he should see a reduced workload since he is nowhere near “game shape” yet.
RB Nate Noel (MIZ) +0.50: Reports from fall camp have seen Noel getting more reps with the first-team offense, even going out before Marcus Carroll at times. This situation may become more of a committee scenario then I originally expected.
RB Leshon Williams (Iowa) +0.50: Has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury but he has now made a return to limited participation in practice. The missed time will likely lock him into the RB2 position and out of contention for contending for the RB1 role.
QB Cade McNamara (Iowa) +0.50: McNamara won the starting QB job but I am not giving him the normal value bump I give other QBs when they’re named the starter. McNamara has not looked good in fall camp and despite installing a new offensive system it looks like the Iowa offense may be pretty anemic once again in 2024.
TE Donovan Green (TxAM) +0.25: Green injured his knee in July and has been working on his recovery. He has now rejoined the team in practice but there is no word yet if he will be cleared in time for the season opener.
WR Antwane Wells, Jr. (Miss) +0.25: An undisclosed injury has kept Wells from fully participating in spring camp. He has started to run individual drills while wearing a non-contact jersey. From the sounds of reports, it might be a long-shot for him to receive a large number of snaps if he is cleared to play in the season opener. Despite that, I am giving him a small positive value bump since he is making progress in his recovery.
WR Chris Hilton (LSU) +0.25: Hilton suffered a minor ankle injury in practice and at the time it was not expected to be serious. It now looks like that was true as Hilton is expected to be cleared to play for the season opener.
STOCK FALLING
TE Brett Seither (GaTec) -10.00: Seither was going to enter the season opener as the starting TE but a knee injury will now hold him out for the entire season.
RB Camar Wheaton (SMU) -10.00: Wheaton was in line to be the Mustang’s RB3 but a knee injury will make him miss the 2024 season.
RB Kenan Christon (SDSU) -6.00: Christon was in a battle for carries with Marquez Cooper but an ankle injury derailed his fall camp. After undergoing surgery for the injury, Christon is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
QB Bishop Davenport (SoAl) -2.50: Davenport put up a strong effort in the QB battle at South Alabama but in the end it wasn’t enough to win the starting job.
RB Marcus Carroll (MIZ) -0.75: There hasn’t been any real news about how Carroll has been playing from fall camp, but there have been reports about how Nate Noel has been playing. Noel has been gaining more reps with the first-team offense, sometimes seeing the field before Carroll. I’m leaving Carroll as the starter right now but expect this to be more of a committee situation moving forward.
RB Roderick Robinson (UGA) -0.75: When Robinson’s toe injury was first reported it appeared the injury was not serious. He is still missing practice time due to what has now been updated as a turf toe injury. The lost practice time means when he does play in game action he will likely be the RB3 as he works his way into “game shape.”
WR Josiah Freeman (Fres) -0.75: Freeman is been dealing with an undisclosed injury and has missed over two weeks of practice. While the injury is not expected to be long term there is little official word on how serious it is.
RB Malik Sherrod (Fres) -0.50: Sherrod has not participated in practice in over a week with an undisclosed injury. Hopes are that he will be cleared for the season opener but no official status is available at this time.
QBs Max Johnson & Conner Harrell (UNC) -0.50: Neither QB has been able to stand out in the fall camp battle to be starter and both will play in the season opener.
RB Pat Garwo (NEV) -0.50: Garwo has been dealing with an undisclosed injury in fall camp. He was noticeably missing from the Week 0 two-deep. Its unsure how much of an impact Garwo will have when he does return to action.
WR Colbie Young (UGA) -0.25: It’s been reported that Young has missed practice time with a hamstring injury. There has been no word on how this affects his status for the season opener.
WR Donavon Greene (Wake) -0.25: Greene is trying to make his return to the field and it was reported that he missed last week’s scrimmage. No word has been given if this is a precaution, a setback from his old injury, or a new injury.
