College Fantasy Football championships are won and lost on the waiver wire. Purple Reign has identified the players you need to target on this week’s waiver wire that will help give your fantasy team a champion’s edge. Premium subscribers will have access to hand chosen waiver wire targets for the best match-ups on this week’s slate, high volume workload players, and players with the most favorable playoff match-ups. In the free preview below I will review players I feel are honorable mention waiver wire targets that did not make any of the specified target lists that are featured for premium subscribers.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
QUARTERBACKS
Joseph is the only player on the list that has a high volume workload, but he doesn’t have a playable match-up until Week 14. Both Jennings and Rizk have lower PPG over the last three weeks and good match-ups for this week. Rizk is the riskier start this week. He had one good game in Week 11 against Arizona, and last week’s poor performance against Arizona State was expected. Jennings has the most reliable fantasy performances and the best match-up for the week. He should be looked at as a solid floor play.
RUNNING BACKS
Williams has scored 21 fantasy points the last two games but what is concerning is that he is putting up those fantasy numbers on such a small workload. There’s a good chance for fantasy point regression despite the favorable schedule. Henry would be the most reliable match-up for the week. He has received 20 carries in two of his last three games and when he sees that increased workload he is finding the end zone. Mozee has been receiving a good workload which is why I included him here, but I would not feel good placing him in my line-up with either of the match-ups left on his schedule. Jackson has been featured as a Waiver Wire target for quite some time now due to his workload and he will be a great play in Week 14 against New Mexico State.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Paige’s PPG over the last three weeks is being pumped up by a 39 fantasy point performance against Appalachian State (which is also the only game he’s scored a TD in over the last month). He has been decent outside of that game but there are better players you could use in Week 14 as a spot-starter. Miller is a great Waiver Wire target. The match-ups aren’t fantastic but the fact those defenses are decent means that Rutgers will have to rely on a balanced approach to their play calling. Sykes keeps flying under the radar despite putting up good fantasy points. He should be stashed away right now for his Week 14 match-up with South Florida. Franklin has also been very productive the last three weeks, with his worst performance being against Oregon where he scored 13 fantasy points. I also like him as a good floor play for the remainder of the playoffs. Jones and Tucker give you some spot-start options for this week if you are in deeper leagues.
TIGHT ENDS
Fleming has not been on fire over the last month but he has been pretty dependable. I’m not a fan of his match-up this week and he might only score 5 fantasy points in that game. He does make for a good spot-starter for Week 14 against Coastal Carolina.
QUARTERBACKS
Current Week Match-Up Targets
The list above is sorted based on each player’s PPG over the last three weeks. When looking at who would I want to start this week I see Houser as the top option on the board. In a tier behind him I see Mendoza, Maiava, and Legas. I like Mendoza’s match-up the most here despite a sluggish performance against Syracuse last week (that game wasn’t a great match-up so I’m not too focused on his 13 fantasy points). Maiava is the hot name who looked good against Nebraska. He’ll be in a rivalry game which means he could be a boom or bust candidate. I think he has the highest floor of this group if he takes off on scrambles more and racks up some decent rushing production. Legas has put up 29 and 17 fantasy points in his last two games which isn’t great, but I really like the match-up which is what pushed him into this tier for me. I see those three followed by Jenkins in a tier of his own, then Ogbonna, Snyder, and Navarro in a tier at the bottom.
Volume Workload Targets
To follow up on why I like Mendoza so much this week, is that he has the highest workload of this group. Legas also got a bump in my rankings for this week’s match-up due to his workload size. Even though I’m not as high on Snyder and Ogbonna for this week, I’m still viewing them as positive Waiver Wire targets due to their workload size. Maiava only has one game under his belt so I’m not putting much stock in his workload size yet.
Playoff Match-Up Targets
Who do I think is the best over the next two weeks? Ogbonna, Jenkins, and Mendoza would be my top three guys. Jenkins has scored 35 and 24 fantasy points in his last two games, the upcoming match-ups are great, and FIU doesn’t have a strong ground game to steal scoring opportunities from him. Ogbonna does have a strong ground game to contend with in the offense but he has been the most reliable player out of these three guys. I also put Mendoza in this group due to the workload volume and two very good match-ups left on the schedule. Snyder has better match-ups than Navarro and Legas but has been the least reliable in fantasy scoring. Legas is better than Navarro this week, while Navarro edges out Legas in Week 14. I don’t see either guy as a plug and play for the next two weeks, instead running a platoon with a different guy each week.
RUNNING BACKS
Current Week Match-Up Targets
The list above is sorted based on each player’s PPG over the last three weeks. I don’t see a lot separating these three guys so I’m really splitting hairs here. I would favor Carson the most. He has a total of 59 carries and 2 TDs over his last two games. He’s the main weapon in the Air Force offense and he would make for a solid floor play. I am worried that Nevada may build too big of a lead to take the Air Force ground game out of the game script. Taylor would be the next guy for me. He has the worst of the match-ups on this list but is averaging the most rushing attempts over the last three weeks. He is splitting carries with Gerald Green which does create uncertainty around what type of workload he will receive. Washington has scored 15, 24, and 15 fantasy points in his last three games despite only averaging 8 touches a game. That scares me about him but you can’t deny his productivity though. Will he see an increase in carries if QB Ben Wooldridge sits out this week? Maybe. We can’t be sure but I really like his match-up though.
Volume Workload Targets
If I was going to focus on guys at RB I would look at the guys on this list most, Robichaux has the worst remaining schedule but his match-up with North Carolina this week is decent. Marshall looks to have a great match-up against Georgia Southern in Week 14 and is worth stashing away now. I really like Henderson and his schedule just missed the cut for the other lists. It is still good with Eastern Michigan this week and a fantastic match-up against Kent State next week. Henderson would be my first choice followed by Carson, Taylor, Marshall, and Robichaux.
Playoff Match-Up Targets
Who do I think is the best over the next two weeks? I mentioned in the last section that Henderson just missed the cut for this list, but I’m going to stick with him being my favorite option moving forward. Since the names haven’t changed this is a repeat of Carson, Taylor, then Washington as the guys behind Henderson.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Current Week Match-Up Targets
The list above is sorted based on each player’s PPG over the last three weeks. There are three guys I think stand out from the rest. Lockhart has been rock-solid and he is my favorite Waiver Wire target PERIOD. Williams has taken off since Legas took over the QB position, scoring 62 fantasy points over the last two games. Norton keeps flying under the fantasy radar while I’ve been singing his praises for weeks now. In his last three games he has 26 targets and 4 TDs. All three of these players have good match-ups and the only player that has risk of not being a good floor play is Williams (while being the best ceiling play of this group). Behind those three I like Wright, Jr. and Patterson. Some of the knocks on these guys are that Patterson is WR2 and he could see a hard drop in targets any week. The ECU passing game is spreading the ball to everyone right now which makes me worry about Wright’s floor potential. Wease is right behind them as he’s been playing very well and has a good match-up. Concerns with him are if Burden has a huge day or the ground game carves up a poor Mississippi State rush defense.
Volume Workload Targets
I mentioned the Lockhart, Norton, Williams trio in the last section and they are my three favorites of this group as well. Walker has been the sneaky play guy I’ve been calling out for weeks now and he is the WR1 in an offense that has improved in the passing game. I would wait and see how he performs against Washington State this week before determining if he could be a good play for you next week against Boise State. Patterson and Singleton keep popping up as reliable targets magnets but they struggle to find the end zone. I have a feeling that Wease’s target share is bound to drop over the next two weeks.
Playoff Match-Up Targets
Who do I think is the best over the next two weeks? By no surprise Lockhart, Williams, and Norton take the top three spots for me. I’m leaning Walker over Jenkins next. Buffalo is not expected to score much this week and their Week 14 match-up with Kent State could see the ground game steal the scoring opportunities from Jenkins. I would take Patterson as my last option of this group and hold off on Wease and Singleton.
TIGHT ENDS
Current Week Match-Up Targets
The list above is sorted based on each player’s PPG over the last three weeks. While Simon has been on fire lately I worry that the match-up with an FCS school will favor other players to do most of the scoring. I’m still putting him as my top option this week but Taylor is right behind him. Taylor has his starting QB back from injury and a more competitive game match-up.
Volume Workload Targets
Taylor was a player that caught my eye in the summer and he is finally coming around to meeting the potential I saw in him. Matavao has been a core part of the improving UCLA passing game these last several games and I’m a big fan of how steady he is in that offense. Bartholomew has had a good two week run, scoring 12 and 13 fantasy points.
Playoff Match-Up Targets
Taylor is the only player with two outstanding match-ups left on the schedule. Even though Bartholomew did not make the cut for this list he has good match-ups with Louisville and Boston College.
